Anita Cheung

Ms. Anita Cheung has been the Mistress of Ceremonies for the Autumn Moon Festival since 1993.  She arrived in the United States in 1971. Ms. Cheung has acted as an entertainment advisor for the Loung Kong Association and has also performed in many community and charitable events including the Chinese Newcomers Service and the Oakland International Festival.  Over the years she has drawn a fan club of people who come to the Festival just to hear her beautiful singing of popular Chinese songs. 

 

China's Spirit Music Ensemble

This musical group was founded and directed by Will (Wei) Hou and Winnie Wong.  Their dream is to share their cultural experiences with their community and share their passion and love for music.  Their rapidly growing music society consists of mainly Chinese instruments.  They provide their students of various musical backgrounds opportunities to play in ensembles and orchestras.  The group has also shared with their audiences  the beautiful instrumental sounds of  hand bells.

Ms. Winnie Wong, Director of the Ensemble,  started training at the age of four and performing at the age of five.  She learned under guzheng virtuoso, Ms. Weishan Liu, Director of the San Francisco Guzheng Music Society. Throughout her career, she has showcased her musical talent at numerous events, including the grand opening of the San Francisco Public Library, the 2004 Ethnic Dance Festival, the Hong Kong Tourism Board promotional campaign, and the Miss Asian America Beauty Pageant.

Due to his exceptional talent, Co Director, Mr. Wei Hou, was accepted by the Beijing School of Performing Arts in 1994. His creativity, hard work, and talent enabled him to develop immense skill as a suo-an soloist.  He also developed the ability to play the Chinese mouth organ.  In 1993 and 1995, he received the top awards as a youth instrument soloist in China.  He has performed in numerous places all over China and has appeared on China’s most popular TV stations and music troupes. 

 

Chinese Folk Dance Association

With a history of forty years in the area, the Chinese Folk Dance Association is the oldest folk dance company in San Francisco Bay Area.  Besides producing many full scale performances at the Herbst Theater, the Palace of Fine Arts, the San Francisco Opera House and the Cowell Theater, at Fort Mason, the CFDA has been performing at many local occasions including the Chinese New Year Parade and the Dragon Board Festival.  Patty Chu is the teacher and choreographer of this talented group. 

 

Dale Chung

This San Francisco based Magician specializes in close up and parlor magic with an elegant Asian flavor.  His more than 16 years of experience has taken his performances from here to Las Vegas.  He has performed with such great performers as Jade, Blackstone Jr. and Cha Ming Yu.  

 

The Flying Angels

The Flying Angels, a talented a dedicated group, will perform a complete variety of beautiful dance forms.  Their music statement, “Flying Angels to the Rescue” suggest their attitude about their work, which is complete, compact and mobile.  They have performed at various cultural events including the Chinese New Year Festival and the Asian Art Museum.  Margaret Cho Fuhrman has been their teacher and choreographer since 1997.  She has helped direct their drive and enthusiasm for dance.  Ms. Fuhrman with her multiple talents, also created their costumes and set decorations for their many performances at cultural events. 

 

Hot Pink Feathers

These lovely ladies display exuberance and enthusiasm of Rio’s Carnival through dance and burlesque extravaganzas.  From sassy synchronized samba routines to whimsical spins on French Cabaret, Hot Pink Feathers is guaranteed to leave you grinning ear to ear.  Kelly Garton was awarded the Little Miss Aftershock title at the 2002 Miss Exotic World contest for her outstanding shimmying and shaking. 

 

Jing Mo

Throughout the years, Jing Mo has given many performances where many of the traditional lion dance elements are presented in a unique way.  The ages of this diverse group range from 5 years old and up. Each member of its volunteer staff is committed to donating his or her time to promote martial arts and lion dance education as another avenue for personal development. Most recently, they have volunteered their time to do lion dancing every Saturday at 4:30 p.m. in San Francisco’s Chinatown.  Besides the Chinese New Year Parade, they have had the pleasure to perform at a variety of shows from small business gatherings and charitable events to large corporate functions for the last 18 years.  Their instructor, Rick Wing, has practiced Northern Style Shaolin Kung Fu for over 30 years. His instructor is the famous Wong Jack Man. Under Rick’s instruction, the group has embraced the concept of many styles of martial arts under one roof, a rather radical concept in the early 1900’s in China. 

 

Music Gathering

This group plays a variety of Chinese instrumental music ranging from popular Mandarin and Cantonese song to traditional Cantonese opera.  Festival attendees can watch up-close as these musicians pluck enthusiastically on their authentic Chinese instruments. 

 

Peony Performing Arts

This group plays a variety of Chinese instrumental music ranging from popular backgrounds.  Ms. Shuang Hou, trained at the prestigious Beking Opera Company, is a multi-award winning Kunqu opera singer.  She played the lead female role, Du Liniang, in the Kunqu Opera classic, the Peony Pavilion.  She has also performed as an actress for the Chinese Central Television and in several films.  Her charming grace and sweet voice has won the adulation of many audiences.   She has performed and taught extensively throughout China, Japan and the United States. Ms. Xiaomu Hou attended the Beijing Dance Academy, the premiere dance institution in China, and graduated with top honors.  Since 1991, her professional experience as performing dancer spans the breadth of the traditional Chinese Classical and Folk dance repertoire.  She has performed taught, and choreographed extensively in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Vietnam, Macao, Japan and the United States. 

 

Red Panda Acrobatics

To pursue his passion for Chinese acrobatics, Wayne Huey traveled to China where he trained with both the Shanghai and Tai Yuan acrobatic troupe.  He performs year round for schools, parties, corporate events, and festivals.  Watch in amazement as he dazzles you with his grace and talents. 

 

St. Mary’s Chinese Drum & Bell Corps

Dressed in their elaborate embroidered silk Chinese opera styled costumes in vibrant colors of red and gold, the St. Mary’s Drum & Bell Corps, have delighted crowds since 1941.  The girls, whose ages range from 6 to 14, have performed in numerous places near and far, including Taipei, Taiwan, for the President Chiang Kai Shak’s birthday, and Washington, D. C. for President John F. Kennedy’s inauguration.  They have also appeared in Honolulu, Hawaii in the St, Patrick’s Day parade.  In the various events, this group has accumulated over four hundred various awards and trophies. 

 

Skye

Skye, an international renown R&B/Pop Vocal Artist from Singapore, has been rocking the hit chart in China and appearing on MTV-Asia. Her powerful voice with immense range and emotion is recognized in the UK and US with top writers such as Vanessa Williams, Elton John, and Madonna. She has appeared at the UK Coventry Festival along with UK chart hit artists Liberty X, Blzin" Squad and Triple 8.

 

Touch of Polynesia

This family group has participated in school and community events all over the Bay area.  Many of their members are award-winning performers who have competed throughout Hawaii and California.  Many of them have been performing since 1983.  Some have started as young as 5 years old.  They enjoy sharing their experience and love for the Polynesian culture by performing with the Aloha spirit.  Don’t miss your experience through Polynesia by watching them dance at this year’s ATA Autumn Moon Festival. 

 

White Crane

This lion dance troupe performs kung fu in the White Crane style with hand gestures and movements in the likeness of a crane. The group has performed the Dragon dance since the late 1970’s and has taken second place in the international lion dance competition in Malaysia.     

 

Yau Kung Moon Kung Fu Sport Association

Over a hundred years ago, the Yau Kung Moon Kung Fu Sport Association was established.  The group has won first place for three consecutive years in the International Lion Dance Competition while the girls division won the 1993 third place in the same competition.  Besides participating in competition, the Yau Kung Moon Kung Fu Sport Association has performed in many local events including the UN 50th anniversary. 

 

Yellow River Drummers

This San Francisco based group is dedicated to preserving the traditional performing arts of China Festival attendees will be enjoy seeing them in their bright yellow costumes and hearing their dynamite drumming.  Although a majority of its adult and children members are from the San Francisco Chinese Immersion Program, it has attracted several members from San Rafael and Hercules.  It has performed at numerous events around the San Francisco Bay Area most notably the Chinese New Year parade. 

 

Singkin Yue

Mr. Singkin Yue has coordinated and taught Tai Chi for many years.  He utilizes this movement to promote well-being of both body and mind.  His group has performed and competed in many events.  Singkin Yue was instrumental in the group’s participation at a number of community affairs including neighborhood health fairs, the Golden Gate Tai Chi Picnic and the San Francisco Wushu Festival.
